Light The World Around You

I know, I know, you're probably thinking to yourself "My GOSH Sara, I literally hear about this 6 times a week and its all over social media and I CANNOT get away from it." But hear me out. This whole #LightTheWorld thing that that the LDS church has started is creating a RACKET in and out of the Church. It basically is this: trying to get people out and doing service and making this Christmas season one to remember. Whether that's making cookies or donating an ORGAN (I'm just saying, this thing with giving of yourself is going a little too far, but you know its whatever), its all about the service. And while that's all great and dandy and fine, here's what its REALLY about, according to this Christmas season lovin' fool.

Christmas is great. We all love the idea of green and red ornaments, cheap tinsel that you buy from the dollar store, and the smell of pine trees and hot cocoa taking over the normal boring smells of every other time of the year. If your last name is Thurgood and your mom's name is Heidi, then EVERYDAY of December is Christmas. But all at the same time, we spend days serving and learning what the true meaning of Christmas really is. I love this, and I attribute my love of Christmas love and spreading joy to my mom. Thanks to my mom, I understand that I have been fortunate enough to have some of the best Christmases of my life.

Now, here's where the topic comes in. Spreading love should be a part of your natural routine on a daily basis, but especially at this time. I know that all times of the year, we're trying to save money. Saving money for a trip, for bills, necessities. And often times, people just can't seem to make it work. Whether their job can't afford to give them a bonus, you had different things come up in the year, you name it. And it sucks. I've been on that end of the stick before, and I'll be the first one to tell you how hard it is to watch your parents try to make ends meet, especially around the holidays. So here it is. Make this Christmas season one to remember, one that you remember as the year you gave of yourself. Again DO NOT SELL YOUR KIDNEYS PLEASE. Rather, give of your time, your money, your love. Whether you follow the Light the World calendar or not, serve. Love. Make this Christmas one that you think of when you hear the words "service" or "love".

Christmas is something we all love, and adore. But some despise this wonderful holiday, and more often than not, it's because they had a bad experience. So do it. Show your love. Make a plate of cookies. Visit that cute old lady that lives around the corner from you. Make this Christmas one of love, compassion, and service. I can promise you, from first hand experience, that as you spend your season serving, you will see a change in your life & more love than ever before. Which might sound crazy, but believe me. It's very real. Make it real for someone else.

Much Love,
Sara Jean
